Ganguly, who retired from international cricket in 2008 after the Test series against the touring Australians, still plays the odd domestic game for Bengal.
He was on his way to Vadodara via Mumbai to figure in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Saurashtra.
Both teams clash in the quarter-final today.
"Only Sachin can play such an innings. Sachin is God. We never watched Sir Don Bradman, but we are watching Tendulkar and he is brilliant," remarked Ganguly.
Thirty seven-year-old Tendulkar, who has scored the most runs and centuries in both Tests and one-day cricket, reached his double century in Gwalior in the last over of the innings when he took a single off paceman Charl Langeveldt.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit a 35-ball 68 not out with four sixes and seven fours and Yusuf Pathan 36 off 23 balls as India posted their highest total against South Africa (401-3) and their third-biggest in one-day internationals
The hosts ended up winning by 153 runs.
Hopefully, Ganguly will be inspired by his former captain in Vadodara.
