A resolute century from Swarn Katkar powered VN Sule Guruji English Medium School (Dadar) to 231 for 7 (80 overs) against Dnyandeep Seva Mandal (Nerul) on Day Two of their three-day Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school Giles Shield semi-final at Parsee Gymkhana on Tuesday.
Resuming at 19-0, VN Sule built their innings around Swarn's 212-ball 103.
He got support from Devang Koli (43), but they ended up 109 runs short of Dnyandeep's first innings total (340), thanks to the Nerul outfit's off-spinner Lavish Singh (4-63).
Dnyandeep then ended the day of at 89-0 in 21 overs with Lavish leading the charge (50 not out).
Both teams get only 40 overs to bat in the second innings. Meanwhile, on Day One of the other semi-final, Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivli) scored 317-5 (80 overs), while Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) ended the day at 28-1 (six overs).
