Teenage star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reacts after historic debut against England

Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wrote his name into the history books on Saturday, becoming India's youngest-ever international debutant across all formats during the second T20I against England in Manchester. At just 15 years and 99 days old, the batter broke a long-standing national record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Though his highly anticipated maiden international outing lasted only 10 deliveries, the young left-hander managed to showcase his fearless approach, smashing two massive sixes in a brief 14-run cameo.

Following the match's conclusion, Sooryavanshi took to social media to share a message with fans. He thanked his 'well-wishers' for the love and support. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, he also promised to 'give his best' in national colours every single time he steps onto the field.

England beat India in a thriller

The milestone moment occurred after India won the toss and opted to bat first. After debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's opening cameo, his partner Abhishek Sharma got the visitors off to a flying start with a destructive 43 off 24 balls. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer chipped in with 37 from 22 deliveries.

However, India suffered a batting collapse from a comfortable 130/2 to 165/6 in quick succession. A late rescue act by Tilak Varma, who hammered an unbeaten 24 off just 11 balls, eventually guided India to a competitive total of 190/7.

England's reply got off to a disastrous start as both Phil Salt and Jos Buttler were dismissed for ducks. Despite the initial setback, the home team made a spectacular recovery led by captain Harry Brook. Brook and Bethell came together to stitch a hundred-run partnership to put England in a comfortable position.

After Brooks' dismissal, Bethell anchored the rest of the chase, putting on a 67-run fourth-wicket partnership with Tom Banton (39). Although Banton and Will Jacks fell in quick succession to leave England in a spot of bother at 133/5, Bethell remained unstoppable. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 76 off 46 deliveries to guide England past the finish line in 19 overs.

England lead the five-match series 1-0, after the first T20I was washed out due to rain.
