Following the Test retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new Test captain

Till date, the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi stands as India's youngest captain. At the age of 21 years and 77 days, Tiger Pataudi first led India in the Test series against the West Indies in 1962

Legendary Team India batsman Sachin Tendulkar comes second on the list. In 1996, Sachin, aged 23 years and 169 days, led India in a Test series against Australia

At the age of 24 years and 48 days, Kapil Dev became India's third-youngest captain in Test cricket. He led the side in a Test series against the West Indies in 1983

Ravi Shastri comes fourth in the list. He had led India against the West Indies at the age of 25 years and 229 days

On Saturday, Gill became India's fifth-youngest captain in the red-ball format. The right-hander is 25 years and 258 days old and will soon lead India in a five-match Test series against England
