On Day 1 of the third Test match against India, England's Joe Root scored an unbeaten 99 runs off 191 deliveries, which included nine boundaries

With this, he has become the batsman to score the most runs at Lord's across all formats. So far, in 33 matches, he has scored 2,526 runs and has surpassed Graham Gooch, who previously held the record with 2,513 runs

The knock also helped him register his 103rd fifty-plus score in the longest format of the game. He now stands on the all-time list with Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting. They are trailing behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has 119 fifty-plus scores in Test cricket

The 34-year-old also became the first player to score 3,000 runs against India in the history of Test Cricket. In 33 Tests, he has scored 3,054 runs, including 10 centuries, and has become only the third batsman to achieve more than 3,000 runs in a non-Ashes Test rivalry

Root is also on the verge of surpassing another major benchmark. If he converts his current innings into a century on Day 2, it would be his 37th Test hundred, moving him past Australia's Steve Smith and India's Rahul Dravid (both with 36 Test centuries) to become the fifth-highest century-scorer in Test cricket history
