After a poor batting display by the lower-order in the first Test match, Team India bounced back in the second Test match as they scripted their names in history books for scoring the most runs in an innings after the fall of the fifth wicket in a Test match

During the match, after the fall of the fifth wicket, Shubman Gill (269) milked crucial 203 runs for the sixth wicket alongside premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 89 runs off 137 balls, including 10 boundaries and a maximum

Later, after Jadeja's departure, Gill was shouldered by Washington Sundar as the duo piled up 144 runs in the match. Facing 103 balls, Sundar accumulated 42 runs, which was laced with three boundaries and a maximum

With this, India posted a total of 587 runs, which is also their fourth-highest score on English soil. Their highest total is 664 runs, which came back in 2007 at the Oval

The current Team India outdid the previous record of 370 runs, which was set in 2013 against the West Indies. Debutant Rohit Sharma (177 in 301 balls, with 23 fours and a six), skipper MS Dhoni (42), and Ravichandran Ashwin (124 in 210 balls, with 11 fours) were the players to help the side register the record. Rohit and Ashwin, together, registered a partnership of 280 runs for the seventh wicket
