Gill is just 107 runs shy of reaching the 2000-run mark in Test cricket. Known for his poise at the crease and technically sound strokeplay, Gill’s potential was first showcased on the big stage during India’s historic Gabba win in 2021 (Photo: @BCCI/X)

Across all formats, Shubman Gill has struck 583 boundaries, which stands as a testament to his graceful stroke-making and ability to pierce the field. Just 17 boundaries short of 600, Gill could achieve this feat early in the series. His penchant for timing and placement rather than brute force makes him one of the most aesthetically pleasing batters in world cricket today

In 14 appearances against England across formats, Gill has accumulated 860 runs at an impressive average of 43. With just 140 more runs required to breach the 1000-run mark, the English attack will once again face a familiar challenge

This series will be a significant test of Gill’s leadership credentials. Taking charge in foreign conditions, especially against a side as formidable as England, is never an easy task. The Headingley conditions, known to favour swing and seam, will pose stern questions not only to Gill’s tactical nous but also to his own batting technique (Photo: BCCI)
