UAE club Al Nasr and their Brazilian-born striker Wanderley Santos Monteiro Junior were hit with fines and bans yesterday for organising a fake Indonesian passport to flout quota rules

Kuala Lumpur: UAE club Al Nasr and their Brazilian-born striker Wanderley Santos Monteiro Junior were hit with fines and bans yesterday for organising a fake Indonesian passport to flout quota rules.

The Dubai-based team were fined $50,000, ordered to pay back $340,000 in prize money from this year's AFC Champions League and barred from the Asian competition until 2019. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also gave Wanderley a three-month suspension and $10,000 fine, after deciding most of the fault lay with the club. The AFC's disciplinary committee found that Al Nasr had organised false passport for Wanderley to get round body's "three-plus-one" rule under which clubs can have up to four foreign players.
