Buenos Aires: Argentina boss Edgardo Bauza spoke of the "pain" as his side were beaten by Paraguay in their World Cup qualifying clash in Cordoba. Bauza's men had drawn their last two games on the road to Russia and stuttered further as they were sunk by Derlis Gonzalez's first-half goal.

For the hosts, Angel di Maria hit the post, Sergio Aguero missed a penalty, they had a goal disallowed and spurned a number of gilt-edged chances. The defeat leaves them out of the automatic qualification spots. "We are sad, bitter and hurt," the boss said. "There is a lot of pain in the dressing room.

"Football punishes you when you can't take your chances. Paraguay defended a line of four at the back and another five men in front of them. It was not easy to break those lines.

"The team in the second half could at least break those two lines but couldn't find an equaliser.
