Chelsea have agreed a deal with Real Madrid over the transfer of Spanish striker Alvaro Morato after agreeing a club record deal worth an initial 58 million pounds.

'Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge,' club said in a statement.

'The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical,' the statement added.

The Blue's fee for Morata eclipses the fee of 50 million pounds they gave Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011 and could rise to 70 million pounds with achievable add-ons, reports the Guardian.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid also announced the deal saying: 'Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Álvaro Morata, subject to the player completing his medical.'

'The club wishes to express its thanks for the dedication, professionalism and exemplary conduct displayed by the player over the years, spanning his time in our academy right through to his spell as a member of the first-team squad,' the statement read.

Wages are not expected to prove an issue, with Morata in line to earn around 150,000 pounds a week on a five-year contract.

The Spain international will give Chelsea boss Antonio Conte the attacking ammunition which he has been missing after the departure of Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United last week.

United have paid an initial 75 million pounds to Everton for the Belgian.

Morata, 24 helped Real to lift a second successive Champions League last season.
