Manchester City midfielder David Silva has missed many games for his club recently to be with his family. The Spaniard yesterday revealed that his son is fighting day by day in hospital after a premature birth.

Silva wrote on Twitter: "I want to thank all of you for the love and good wishes received in the last few weeks. Special thanks to my team-mates, the manager and all at the club for understanding the situation. Also, I want to share with you the birth of my son, Mateo, who was born extremely prematurely and is fighting day by day with the help of the medical team." City boss Pep Guardiola said that "personal reasons" were behind Silva's absence from the 4-1 win over Tottenham on December 16.
