Former USA women's football star Meghan Rapinoe, 41, who recently saw her documentary Rapinoe premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, already has an actress in mind to play her in a potential biopic.
When USA's People magazine asked Rapinoe for a shortlist of actresses she felt would be ideal to portray her on screen, she didn't hesitate.
"Oh, Tilda Swinton. That's the list. I feel like she's perfect," Rapinoe said. Swinton is an Academy Award-winning Scottish actress.
Rapinoe, directed by Rebecca Huntt, will be released on HBO. The documentary portrays the queer football star "at a deeply introspective moment as she ends her professional career and starts looking back," according to a media release.
Rapinoe announced her retirement from football in July 2023 after the Women's World Cup. She was an integral part of the US teams that won the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019, besides helping them clinch Olympic gold at the 2012 London Games.
