The 21-year-old won 6-1, 6-3, in one hour and 40 minutes in her first ever head-to-head meeting with Kleybanova, seeded seventh.
"We both played a very good match today," Azarenka said. "The first set was much more difficult than it may appear looking at the scoreboard. I was battling for every single point and luck was on my side today in the deciding moments. I want to win Kremlin Cup and also hope to show my best tennis here."
