The Maharashtra government has pledged its full support to Mumbai's largest sporting event, the Mumbai Marathon, the eighth edition of which will be run on January 16, 2011.
In a strong show of support, Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal said: "The Maharashtra govt fully supports the Marathon and I request everyone to support it and for those who don't want to, it's okay but at least keep quiet and don't spoil the show. Marathon is the pride of Mumbai and the show will go on."
Bhujbal was speaking at the function to announce the start of registrations for the 8th edition of the Mumbai Marathon at a south Mumbai hotel yesterday.
Registration for the Full and Half Marathon open today and closes on August 21 or whenever entries are full. Online registration can be done on
www.procamrunning.in Prize money for the event is USD 3,25,000.
