The driver of the car that overturned and killed the great granddaughter of Nelson Mandela was drunk when the accident happened after the World Cup kick-off concert, police said Friday.
"The driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide and drunk driving," police spokesman Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo.
"There was another person in the vehicle, a female relative but not the mother," he said.
The driver was not injured and will appear in court on Friday, he added.
Mandela's office has said that the driver was a member of the former president's family but the person has not been identified.
