Fernando Alonso said he was surprised by the lack of pace in his Ferrari after a very disappointing qualifying session for Sunday's Turkish GP.

The former two-time champion, who started from the pit lane at the Monaco GP two weeks ago failed to make the cut into Q3 and will start Ferrari's 800th GP from 12th position.
"I don't know (what happened). I didn't think we were so slow," Alonso said. "We struggled in Q1, 9th and 10th, and then in Q2 we couldn't improve the time by much and we were out. By a tenth, but that's the way it is. We have to improve and we know it."
