India men, women win Kabaddi World Cup

India's men and women's teams both won the Kabaddi World Cup titles at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on Saturday.


While the Indian eves crushed Malaysia 72-12 to win the coveted title, the Indian men retained their title for the third consecutive year, dominating arch-rivals Pakistan 58-21 in front of a vociferous crowd.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal handed over prize money cheque of Rs 51 lakh to the winning Indian eves while the runners-up took home Rs 31 lakh. The third-place winning women's team Denmark won Rs 21 lakh for their effort.

The prize money for the men was much higher. The Indian men took home a cool Rs 2 crore while Pakistan received a cheque of Rs 1 crore. Third-place winners Canada were richer by Rs 75 lakhs.
