Indian shuttlers exit Japan Open

The Indian challenge at the $200,000 Japan Open Super Series ended here yesterday after shuttlers Ajay Jayaram, K Srikanth and HS Prannoy lost their respective men's singles quarter-final matches at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.


Fifth seeded Vietnamese Tien Minh Nguyen beat Mumbai's Jayaram in straight games 21-18, 21-13 in 40 minutes.

Then, Japanese seventh seed Kenichi Tago beat Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold winner Srikanth 21-18, 21-9 to proceed to the semi-finals. Prannoy gave a good fight to China's Huan Gao, taking the match into three games, but eventually lostu00a011-21, 22-20, 13-21 in a marathon tie that lasted an hour and 13 minutes.
