Indians win two golds at Asian Youth badminton

Indian shuttlers achieved their best ever performance at the Asian Youth (U-15 and U-17) Badminton Championship by winning two gold medals here yesterday.


Siril Varma (14) defeated local lad Putra Gatja 21-11, 21-17 in the boys U-15 singles final.u00a0In the U-17 doubles combination, top seeded MR Arjun and Chirag Shetty beat Thais Mak Narongrit and Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-16, 21-15 to clinch the title.

The two titles took India's medal tally to two gold and two bronze. Bangalore's Daniel Farid (U-17, singles) and Krishna Prasad/ Shreya Bose (U-15, mixed doubles) finished with two bronze medals after losing their respectiveu00a0semi-finals on Saturday.

Last year, India had won two bronze medals in China besides World Championship bronze medallist PV Sindhu winning the U-19 title. "We have invested in junior and sub-junior events for the last two years and now the results are showing," said Badminton Association of India chief Akhilesh Das Gupta.u00a0
