India, which is trying to retain the second place in the XIXth Commonwealth Games, had a good start on Thursday with Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa winning the 37th gold for the country in women's badminton doubles final.


India, which is trying to retain the second place in the XIXth Commonwealth Games, had a good start on Thursday with Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa winning the 37th gold for the country in women's badminton doubles final.

The duo won the first ever-gold medal in the women's doubles badminton event for India in Commonwealth Games history defeating their Singaporean opponents in straight sets 21-16, 21-19.

Jwala and Ashwini, seeded second, won the match in 39 minutes amid loud cheers from the packed hall at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.
