But that was four years ago. This time around, Poncha, who has matured a fair bit and has wiped off a few seconds from his best finish time, is confident and raring to go.
"You can't predict anything," he told MiD DAY. "I have trained very well and have clocked some very good times in training. And though I will be competing against the top ten in the world, I am confident of making it to the finals," said Poncha, who will spearhead India's swimming contingent here. In fact, Australia has sent a strong 52-member contingent. Then there are the British and Canada, who are a force to reckon with as well.
"Like I said before I have trained very hard. And currently I am clocking two minutes in the 200m butterfly event. If I can shave off another two or three seconds, I am with a chance. I am hoping to do my best," Poncha said.
