Athletes worldwide throng to the Olympics to achieve grandeur at the big stage. However, there are some who are in search for a different kind of match.

While Rio has been plagued with stories of mismanagement and lack of basic facilities, the sex and relationships arena is perennially kept buzzing. Data released by dating app Tinder for the first weekend shows an increase in profile matches inside the Games Village by 129%.

The prospect of connecting with new people has grown so much that daily active users have shot up by 64%, swipes by 69% and super likes by 73%. There has been a staggering surge when it comes to Tinder's passport feature, which has skyrocketed by 211%. According to a spokesperson from the company, this trend will only continue as the Games progress.

"The Olympic Games have started and Tinder use has skyrocketed in Rio de Janeiro. We expect this trend to continue throughout the games. "Rio has also become the most popular place in the world to swipe using Tinder's passport feature," the spokesperson said.
