The world's top women players suffered a torrid time at the Sudirman Cup yesterday. World No 1 Wang Shixian was a surprise loser and India's Saina Nehwal had to fight all the way.
Wang went down to Germany's Juliane Schenk 21-19, 21-16.
Nehwal, the world No 4 was a comfortable 21-10 winner in the first game of her match against Taiwan's Tai Tzu-ying. But she suffered a meltdown in the second game, losing 21-12, before recovering to squeeze to victory in the third game 21-17 to take the match.
