Spain's Iniesta could miss WC opener

European champions Spain could be without midfield mainstay Andres Iniesta for next Wednesday's World Cup group opener against Switzerland after the Barcelona star suffered a bruised leg in Tuesday's 6-0 warm-up rout of Poland.

Iniesta faces being out of action for a week, the Spanish Football Federation said after he underwent a scan in Spain on Wednesday.

"The result of a scan shows up some bruising in the semimembranous muscle of his right leg," a statement said, adding the Barcelona man required an 'uncertain period of recuperation'.

Even so, it did not rule out his being fit to meet the Swiss.
