Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson congratulated Chelsea on winning the English Premier League yesterday, but vowed to reclaim the title next season.
Though United beat visitors Stoke 4-0, they had to settle for second place as leaders Chelsea crushed Wigan 8-0 to take the trophy back to Stamford Bridge after three years at Old Trafford.
"It was always going to be hard for Wigan to get something. When we heard they were down to 10 men all our hopes evaporated," Ferguson said, adding: "But we applaud Chelsea winning the title and I applaud Carlo Ancelotti. We know how hard it is to win the league."
Fergie then sounded a warning. "We can be proud because we have challenged very strongly for a fourth title in a row and we have taken it to the wire. But next season we will go again and hopefully we will bring back the title to the best place in the world."
