Asian Games 2026: Roshibina Devi secures silver in Wushu; Rowing pair wins bronze

Indian wushu athlete Roshibina Devi captured her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games, finishing as runner-up to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's sanda 60 kg final in Aichi-Nagoya.

Roshibina, who also claimed a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, dropped both rounds by a 0-5 margin as her Chinese rival closed out the contest 2-0. Having previously secured a bronze at the 2018 edition, Roshibina made history by becoming the first Indian woman to clinch three successive Wushu medals at the continental games.

Her campaign in Japan was a success, highlighted by a victory over 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy of Vietnam. On Wednesday, Roshibina advanced to the final after defeating Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Roshibina's win brought India its 14th medal of the ongoing multi-sport event, adding a sixth silver alongside one gold and seven bronze medals.

Earlier in the day, the men's double sculls duo of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan earned a bronze medal. The duo crossed the finish line with a time of 6:13.25, finishing just 3.48 seconds behind China's gold medalists Yi Xudi and Nie Yide, and 2.76 seconds shy of the silver-winning pair Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin.

Satnam and Salman held the second position through the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m splits before slipping in the home stretch, having briefly trailed the leading Chinese boat by just half a second.

Meanwhile, in the men's single sculls final, Balraj Panwar narrowly missed a podium finish, taking fourth place. Balraj held the second spot at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m markers before being overtaken in the final 500 meters by Uzbekistan's Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan's Tatsuya Sakurama.

Earlier, Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty faltered against higher-ranked opponents as the Indian men's team signed off with a bronze medal after going down 1-3 to rivals China in the semifinals of the Asian Games. India had won the silver medal at the last edition in Hangzhou in 2023, where they had lost to China in the final.
