"My suggestion to Hockey India is to respect the players, listen to them, be transparent in your accounts and what you have. Perhaps, only then there will be a chance of a compromise," Bindra told MiD DAY over the phone yesterday.
Bindra became India's first individual gold medallist when he shot to glory in the men's 10m air rifle event in Beijing in 2008. The Indian hockey team claimed several Olympic golds (from 1928) but their last came in Moscow at the 1980 games.
The ace shooter's heart went out to the players who have not been paid their salary by Hockey India. The strike has hampered India's preparations for the New Delhi World Cup to be held in February and March.
"You have to gain the faith and respect of the players first,'' said Bindra.
