Hockey India have ignored the Mumbai Hockey Association's (MHA) request to grant them affiliation in the run-up to the elections that were yesterday rescheduled to February 7. Delhi and Punjab were granted affiliation, however there was no mention of the Mumbai body. This has obviously angered Dhanraj Pillay. "Denying MHA affiliation to Hockey India is ridiculous. While the Pune associations may have their little role to play, Mumbai's contribution to Indian hockey is magnanimous. The list of internationals and Olympians to have come out of Mumbai is endless. Show me one international player that has come out of Pune. All have had to come to Mumbai and make a name for themselves, including me," said Pillay.
"Besides, with both hockey bodies in Pune at loggerheads and the matter still pending in court, on what grounds has hockey Indian granted affiliation to one of those parties, at the cost of ignoring Mumbai," asked Pillay.
