Things such as managing nerves, handling pressure, and most importantly, participating in more than one event a day, has been an integral part of their training regime.
It was no surprise then that two youngsters stood out on an impressive day of shooting for the Indians at the Dr Karni Singh Range here yesterday.
Gurpreet Singh (23) started the day on a golden note. Partnered by Vijay Kumar in the 25m Rapid Fire pistol event yesterday, the duo clinched gold and also smashed the Games record by a huge margin.
Later, Gurpreet partnered Omkar Singh in the 10m Air Pistol (pairs) event to clinch gold and again shatter the old mark set four years ago.
"We have been trained to maintain our focus even if we have two assignments in a day. I was prepared to concentrate on both my events," said Gurpreet.
Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar felt it was not as easy as it appeared in the 25m Rapid Fire pistol shooting event in the morning session. "It seemed that we were in total control and cruised to gold. But that's not entirely correct," admitted Kumar.
"The Malaysians were shooting very well and were very close to us. It was a chat with our coach at the end of the first stage that helped us relax our nerves," said Kumar.
