Floyd clinches mid-day Trophy

Six-year-old Floyd, trained by Berham Cama and ridden by apprentice jockey Ramswaroop, stunned his more fancied rivals to win the mid-day Trophy at the Pune racetrack on Saturday.

Floyd, a long shot quoted at 10-to-1, was led in by owner Jaydev Mody, who admitted to mid-day after the race that it was a pleasant surprise for him.

Floyd stalked leader Charisse (K Bhagat up) from the word go, and issued a serious challenge only in the final furlong when even Fire Away (Dashrath Singh up) and Avante (A Sandesh up) moved up menacingly to vie for the win.

Ramswaroop, however, did well to keep both of them at bay, finally sparing only half a length to Fire Away at the wire. Floyd clocked 1m 40.24s for the mile trip of the mid-day trophy.
