Olympic medalist Gagan Narang to mentor young shooters for free

Olympic bronze medal-winning shooter and four-time Olympian Gagan Narang marked his 43rd birthday on Wednesday (May 6) with the launch of Project Amarjeet, a free coaching and mentoring initiative for any shooter, coach or academy across India. The project is named after Narang's mother who passed away in January at the age of 80.

Narang jointly announced the initiative with his wife and fellow Olympian Annu Raj Singh, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist. "My mother Amarjeet gave me everything I needed to become who I am. This is a tribute to her and every mother, who drove to a shooting range at 5am, sat in the stands, held her breath till the last shot was taken, and believed before there was any evidence to believe. This is our way of giving back, in their name, through this sport, to whoever needs it next," said Narang, adding that he and Annu will personally review all applications sent to www.projectamarjeet.in and accordingly offer their expertise at no cost to deserving shooters.
