Aal was not well for India No 1 Somdev Devvarman. The 24-year-old was smashed by Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 2-6, 1-6 in the second round of the 400,000 ATP Chennai Open at the Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium yesterday.

Devvarman may have got thrashed but he took the cake for the wittiest quote. "I played really ugly. Of course, the only two people who enjoyed it were Janko and his pretty girlfriend Biljana Sesevic.''

Tipsarevic the World No 38 and the No 4 seed did not allow the Indian to settle and controlled the game from his forehand with some booming winners. Somdev was swept off his feet and could not cope with the brute force of the Serbian.

"The scoreline showed I won easily. But I played one and a half hours of intense tennis. Nether of us served well," said the philosophical winner, who also gave a reason behind his glam look with the goggles.

"I have to wear them as they are power glasses and I can hardly see from my left eye. If I don't wear them, everything will be dark."

The Belgrade resident sports a tattoo in Japanese on his left arm which reads, "Beauty will save the world'' from famous writer Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot. He also has a Japanese tattoo on his right arm, which represent the first two letters of the names of his father, his mother, himself and his brother, in Katakana (Japanese dialect).

The Serb has also read a lot of novels of the Russian Dostoevsky's. "I used to read a lot of his books before. He is a very fine author and I developed this habit because of my mother. I know read less of him and more of others because I feel Dostoevsky's books mess up my mind." The Serbian is also a linguist as he is fluent in English, Serbian and Russian. He has a University degree in Sports Management.

Tipsarevic is easily noticed as the pretty Serb Sesevic is always by his side. She was courtside vociferously rooting for her beau. "She is my constant support. She travels with me sometimes as she works back home in Serbia. We are engaged and are getting married on July 4,'' said the 25-year-old with a huge smile as wide as Belgrade.
