Commonwealth Games security is already a huge headache for Delhi police, with accreditation issues of volunteers and workers yet to be sorted. So they can ill-afford to waste their resources chasing fake calls and fabricated information.

A 39-year-old man was booked under the IT Act on Thursday for making a hoax call the previous night about a bomb at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

According to police sources, the call was received at about 11.10 pm on Wednesday and the entire department came into action. "As soon as we received the call, the local police was sent to the stadium and inspection began. In fact, Additional Commissioner of Police Vivek Gogia, who is in charge of the stadium, went there in the middle of the night," sources said.

After the entire stadium was checked and nothing was found, the call was declared a hoax. "The mobile number from which the call was made was checked and the address was traced from Shahbad Dairy in outer district area. The owner of the phone, identified as Sant Lal was picked up by the local police and was arrested after it was discovered that he made the call under the influence of alcohol," police sources said.

A case was lodged at the Shahbad Dairy police station and further investigations are on. Lal has been booked under the IT Act.

"We booked him under strict sections as it causes inconvenience to everyone," cops said.
Lal lives in Kirti Nagar locality of Shahbad Dairy with his family and works as an autorickshaw driver.
