Midday's weekend sports guide

With both Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna winning their respective singles games on the opening day of the Davis Cup World Group play-off between India and South Africa at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena on Friday, the visitors could well make it 3-0 when Mahesh Bhupathi pairs up with Bopanna to take on Wesely Moodie and Jeff Coetzee on Saturday.

Senor pro Bhupathi could well use this tie and all his experience to overcome the disappointment of his recent US Open men's doubles final defeat to one-time partner and compatriot Leander Paes.

If so, then Sunday's reverse two singles matches Rik De Voest vs Devvarman and Izak van der Merwe vs Bopanna will then be a mere formality for the Indians.

English Premier League: Manchester derby on Sunday

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has a point to prove to his manager Alex Ferguson after being substituted against his wishes in the mid-week Champions League match against Besiktas. And what better place to do so than in a English Premiership derby clash with rivals Manchester City?u00a0 City's prospects have not been helped by the fact that they could be without over 100 million pounds of striking talent with Emmanuel Adebayor suspended following his stamp on Robin van Persie last weekend, Robinho and Roque Santa Cruz injured and Carlos Tevez struggling to recover from a knee injury.
