India's Leander Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy moved a step closer in attempt to successfully defend their French Open doubles title here yesterday.
The defending champions reached the semi-finals with a straight-sets win over eighth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland 6-1 6-3.
The Paes-Dlouhy combine will now take on the winners of the match between Brazilian duo of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares and 10th seeded Austrian-Israeli pair of Julian Knowle and Andy Ram in the semis.
In a match that lasted close to an hour, Paes and Dlouhy clinched the opening set easily to set the tone for the kill in the second. Meanwhile Paes, who was partnered by Cara Black in the Mixed Doubles found the going to tough before crashing out in the quarters. The second seeds were upset by Julian Knowle and Yaroslava Shvedova in three grueling sets 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-7.
