The Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) has decided to postpone the U-16 Harris Shield Elite Division inter-school cricket semi-final till it finishes its investigation of a Rizvi player, pulled up for age-fudging

The Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) has decided to postpone the U-16 Harris Shield Elite Division inter-school cricket semi-final between Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) and Don Bosco (Matunga) till it finishes its investigation of a Rizvi player, pulled up for age-fudging.

As reported by mid-day (Dec 12), a parent of a Dahisar school, through RTI (Right to Information), found that a Rizvi player's date of birth (DOB) in the school's records is 18-03-1998, while the DOB submitted by Rizvi to MSSA is 18-11-1999.

To be eligible to play in the MSSA U-16 event, a player must be born on or after 1-1-1999. It is learnt that this player first went to St Andrew's School in Mira Road before joining Shailendra Education (Dahisar) and then Rizvi. The player is said to have submitted incorrect age proof documents to Rizvi.

MSSA had earlier asked Rizvi to keep the boy away from playing the Dec 16 semi-final, but has now decided to postpone the match itself. While MSSA cricket secretary HS Bhor refused to comment on the issue, Don Bosco coach Rohan Nagwekar confirmed that the match was postponed due to the Rizvi player.

"When I contacted Bhor on Saturday (Dec 13) he wasn't sure when the match would be played and asked me to call back on Sunday. Then, he said that the match will be played only after the Rizvi player issue is sorted."
