Rome: Serbia's four-time champion Novak Djokovic defeat a confident clay-court player Aljaz Bedene 7-6(2), 6-2 yesterday during his Internazionali BNL d'Italia opener on Court Centrale here. World No. 2 Djokovic, who is on a dream run this season, had to overcome some early resistance against Bedene.
Meanwhile, Tomas Berdych moved to 599 career wins with a first-round victory over Mischa Zverev. The Czech was made to work by the dogged German but eventually took a 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 success after converting just one of nine break points.
