Swede Duplantis sets new pole vault world record

Paris: Armand Duplantis of Sweden set a pole vault world record of 6.17 metres at an indoor meeting in Poland on Saturday.

US- born Duplantis, 20, who won silver at last yearu2019s world championships in Doha, cleared the bar on his second attempt in Torun to break the previous record of 6.16m set by Franceu2019s Renaud Lavillenie in February 2014. u201c Itu2019s something that I wanted since I was three years old,u201d Duplantis said.

Lavillenie, 33, the 2012 Olympic champ, was not surprised his record had been eclipsed. u201c I knew he [ Duplantis] had the potential,u201d he said.
