Yearender 2022: Major sporting events that had our attention

It's been a fantastic year to be a sports fan with some memorable achievements across both men's and women's sports. The year also saw Argentina lift the FIFA World cup trophy after 36 years, and England men's cricket team became the first team to hold both the ODI and T20 World Cups trophy. FIFA World Cup 2022

Lionel Messi’s Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy. Argentina lifted the trophy after 36 years; it was Argentina's third title after 1978 and 1986. Player of the tournament went to Lionel Messi for having three assists and seven goals. Messi won the Golden ball for the second time after previously winning it in 2014

IPL 2022

The 2022 Indian Premier League was the fifteenth season of IPL cricket tournament. The final match was played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals where Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to win their first IPL title. Although it was Hardik Pandya and co. who lifted the winning trophy, it was Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals who clinched the coveted title of the tournament called the Player of The Season. 

ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022

ICC Women's cricket world cup 2022 was the twelfth edition of the Women's Cricket World Cup, held in New Zealand in March and April. Initially, the series was scheduled to take place on February 6 till March 7, 2021, but it got postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The final match was played between Australia and England where Australia won by 71 runs to secure their seventh World Cup title. Alyssa Healy was named as the Player of The Match.   

 

ICC Men's T20 World Cup

The 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the eighth ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. The tournament began on October 16 and ended on Noember 13, 2022, in Australia. The final was played between England and Pakistan where England beat Pakistan by five wickets to win their second T20 World Cup. Player of The Match and Player of The Tournament, both awards were bagged by Sam Curran. 

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

2022 Commonwealth Games known as Birmingham 2022, hosted by England in Birmingham was held in July 28 till August 8, 2022. This was India's 18th time participation in the Commonwealth Games with 322 Athletes. While Australia topped the table with 67 Gold medals, India ended up being at the 4th position and won 21 Gold medals in total.
