Opening the knots

PIC/KNOTYOURTYPE.IN

This writer has grown up watching her mother embroider. Sometimes it was a pillowcase, other times a saree. She tried to teach her children the art too, but somehow, it just never caught on. And so, as an adult when we spotted this DIY embroidery kit, it immediately caught our attention. It comes with pre-measured thread, needles, a fabric with a patterned guideline, and even a wooden hoop, so it pretty much covers everything. Embroidering is such a detail-oriented art, that you'll lose yourself in it for hours. As we go into the fabric, thread by thread, we find our thoughts come and go easier, as if we've entered a meditative state. Sometimes, we even call our mother and embroider together on a video call!

Apna number aa gaya

Looking for fun activities to do indoors this summer? We like the paint by numbers kits from Craft Mate. Now, we know what you're thinking - paint by numbers is for kids. But hear us out. These are not the simple flower or rainbow colouring kits of our childhood.

Craft Mate has detailed, full-fledged artworks on framed canvas that you can hang up proudly once you are done. The difficulty level varies across the kits; the hardest versions are paintings of popular holiday spots like Varkala Beach or Santorini, Greece (great way to remember your trip!), while the simplest ones are landscapes like mountains that are still pretty enough to hang up. It takes about 10-12 hours to complete the more complex ones.

These kits have inspired us to finally host our very own wine and paint soirées, even though we can't draw or paint to save our lives! With these number-coded canvases, though, even artistically challenged folk like us can try.
At Rs 1299, each kit comes with the canvas, acrylic paints, three brushes, hooks for hanging, and a reference image of the design.
