Veteran actor Anthony Hopkins opened up about his battle with alcoholism saying, "It was difficult to work because I was usually hung over." During an event of the LEAP Foundation, the actor, who was there as a chief guest, spoke to the audience about his problems with alcohol and the impact it had on his early career on stage. Hopkins added that he had been "disgusted, busted and not to be trusted" while he was drinking.

The 80-year-old actor conceded that the turning point for him came courtesy the advice from a woman at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in December 1975. He said the woman asked him, "why don't you just trust in God?" and from then on the urge to drink was "never to return".
