The two accused, both deaf and mute, had forgotten one of their phones at the victim's residence while trying to decamp with valuables worth Rs 4 lakh
Just 12 hours after a 58-year-old woman was found with her throat slit at her Bandra apartment, the Bandra police have cracked the case with the arrests of two accused who were later identified to be deaf and mute. The Bandra cops nabbed Saif Raza Shabbir Hussain Bhavnagri (28) from his home in Mumbra while his accomplice Parvez Wahid Khan (30) was arrested from Bandra Chinmaiwada locality. The authorities say that the two were nabbed after one of them had forgotten their mobiles at the victim’s residence after they killed her and were fleeing with the stolen booty.
Officials say that the two accused were fond of going to clubs and drinking, because of which their families stopped giving them pocket money. It was then that they conspired to kill Nalini Chainani

On Tuesday night, Nalini Chainani, a resident of Madhuban building at Pali Naka in Bandra, was killed and valuables worth Rs 4 lakh were stolen from her home. Cops say that the victim knew the accused well, and hence, she allowed them inside the home. It was then that the two attacked her with a sharp weapon and then fled with the valuables. During the rush of fleeing they left the phone at the residence, a mistake that helped the cops arrest them later.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Cherring Dorje said, “We have solved the case within 12 hours with the arrests of Saif and Parvez. Saif, the prime accused knew the victim and entered the building around 4 pm and then later killed her and decamped with cash and gold jewellery together worth Rs 4 lakh, which was recovered later.”
Security concerns
Officials added that the duo were spotted by the watchman entering the building but he did not pay any attention to them. “The watchman noticed both of them entering the building and even asked the duo where they were going. The two just signalled to the seventh floor. Without taking any due notice, he let the two enter the building,” said an investigating officer. Officials also revealed that another resident of a nearby building had seen the two accused loitering around the building and looking for a chance to enter the premises.

The investigation officer also added that the two had revealed in their confessions that they were fond of going to clubs and drinking, owing to which their family members had stopped giving them pocket money. The two then thought of killing Chainani, and hatched the plan some 15 days ago. Dorje added, “We produced them before court and they have been remanded in police custody till June 15.
We have recovered the knife and some jewellery. Further investigations are going on.” The authorities added that initially officers were having trouble interrogating the accused owing to their handicaps, but they later called in an expert to help mediate the questioning.u00a0
