The Oscars are just round the corner and the suspense over the awards is steadily building up. Will it finally be Leonardo DiCaprio's year? Will Brie Larson walk away with the coveted trophy for her acclaimed work in 'The Room'? There are some worthy contenders this year, right from Eddie Redmayne in 'The Danish Girl' to Michael Fassbender in 'Steve Jobs'.

And while Leo has been making the maximum buzz with trade circles confident that he will win the Best Actor gong for The Revenant, the Academy is known to spring surprises on us. On the other hand, Cate Blanchett is a classic choice for her role in Carol whereas Jennifer Lawrence has been making waves for her poignant portrayal in Joy. In the run-up to the big night, a few filmmakers, who closely follow Hollywood, share their predictions with hitlist:

"The Revenant is nothing but pure cinema. It's easy to tell that the film has been shot against all odds, and that translates incredibly on screen. It's like a commando course on celluloid. I would say the best motion picture Oscar should go to it. Besides, even though you can't tell with the Academy, it's high time that Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar — not just for his performance, but also for his perseverance. The fact that he did what he did in The Revenant is astounding. Also, Brie Larson in the Room was superb; she deserves the Best Actress trophy. As far as the best supporting actor goes, Rocky won an Oscar in 1976, so it would be the perfect way of honouring Sylvester Stallone 40 years later for his work in Creed.

"I remember watching Mad Max in 1985 and felt the same emotions this time round (Mad Max: Fury Road). It was a relentless ride. George Miller just got younger at 70! I would love Mad Max to knock it this year, given that it is a brilliantly made film. I have heard incredible things about The Revenant too, but haven't watched it yet."

"I definitely hope Leonardo DiCaprio wins the best actor for The Revenant for all the efforts he has put in for this one."

"The Revenant is truly deserving of all the accolades and appreciation that it has been getting."
