In the showbiz world dominated by overzealous PR machinery, some stars seem to be quite comfortable making headlines without a helping hand

Bollywood stars who prefer to fly solo

There is no denying that the personal lives of stars, to a great extent, is part of living room conversations today. A star suffering from a common cold becomes newsworthy while an actress breaking her leg grabs headlines. Perhaps, they have to thanks their overactive PR machinery for constantly keeping them in the public eye.u00a0

But on the other hand, there are a few actors who seem to manage just fine without anyone screaming stories (and some ludicrous tales also) about them off the roofs. They seem to conspicuously stand away from the Great Wall of PRs, carving their own moments under the sun.

Salman Khan
Salman Khan

He perhaps remains the most unfazed by the reams of pages dedicated to his professional and personal antics. His allegedly tumultuous love affairs as well as his unwavering generosity have all been a part of daily gossip fodder. No wonder he lets his media affairs be earnestly handled by his manager instead of going for an additional PR.

Ranbir Kapoor

It’s hard to believe that a young and happening actor like him has preferred not to assign a personal PR for the moment. Not only has he been the toast of the town for his cinematic prowess, he is also under the scrutiny of shutterbugs, thanks to his many alleged romantic link-ups.

Saif Ali Khan

Not very long ago, Saifeena shared the same PR but as of now, the actor doesn’t have a personal rep. Although his production house keeps switching from one agency to another as per the requirements of his films, he has remained independent on a personal level for a while now. Thus, contributing to this rather unique and interesting fad of going solo in an image-conscious showbiz.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

The poster-boy of an outsider making it big in the industry experimented with several agencies before going back solo. For some reason, his manager has been handling his business now after none of the PR agencies he was associated with continued for long. However, going by the positive reviews he bags for his onscreen performances and near absence of personal turmoil, Nawaz isn’t missing anything.

Veterans’ call

Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor

One of the busiest actors around with about seven releases slated this calendar year, Rishi can’t care less about anything else. Known for speaking his mind, he doesn’t appear to go around floating stories. All we can say is like father, like son.

Paresh Rawal

It’s well nigh impossible to come across a snippet suggesting what’s really going on in Paresh’s personal life. Only stuff revolving around his professional side, be it in cinema or theatre, comes forward on a regular basis. One of the highest-paid actors in the industry following the A-list league the celebrated actor has stayed away from the rigmarole of public relations.

Naseeruddin Shah

Certainly among the best in the acting business, Naseer balances films (for money) with theatre (for passion). He rarely makes news outside these two mediums. The thespian doesn’t even seem to dye his hair! Unlike most others in the industry, he’s vocal about his thoughts and never minces words. But he’s not a controversial figure either. Explains why he can do without a personal PR in tow.

Women on top

Konkona Sen Sharma

Konkona who was appreciated for her work in two last releases Goynar Baksho and Ek Thi Daayan picks up her own call. Juggling Hindi and Bengali films, she is seldom written about. Perhaps she makes sure by not hiring a PR, unlike most fellow actresses.

Karisma Kapoor

Of late, she is seen more in small screen commercials and events than in films. In fact, her last venture was the forgettable Dangerous Ishhq. The actress, who turned 39 last week, prefers to lead a quiet life without unnecessary publicity.

Sushmita Sen

The former Miss Universe was last seen in FALTU (2011) and there’s no buzz of her upcoming film. Generally spotted in events in the city, the gorgeous Bong doesn’t need that extra push to make it to the media. Her admirable personality armed with wit does the trick for her.

Rekha
Rekha

In a self-imposed exile, the reclusive evergreen beauty is difficult to get in touch with. And there is no PR to call either. Recently seen in a chocolate ad and being a part of an upcoming superhero film after a hiatus of more than three years, Rekha has managed to remain in the spotlight.
