Cop beaten up by gang of 20 during Diwali shopping, wife molested

A police constable in Pune, who went to protect a hawker when he saw him being beaten up by a gang of 20 people, was allegedly assaulted by the gang, who followed the cop till his house. The gang also allegedly manhandled and molested his wife and daughter.
The incident took place near old police line in Khadki Bazaar near the house of the cop, on Monday afternoon around 3 pm, when the constable and his family were out Diwali shopping.

Speaking to mid-day, the victim’s wife said, “The gang ransacked our house and broke the doors. When the attackers were targetting me and my family, no one came forward to help us. Finally, some women understood our grievances and started thrashing culprits. But, they too were manhandled. They also abused my 12-year-old daughter and brutally assaulted my husband with a blunt object.”
According to the Khadki police, “The constable is attached to the special protection unit (SPU) of Pune city police. He had come home after finishing his duty hours, and had plans to go shopping with his family for Diwali. The policeman was in civil dress when he came out of the police colony and was heading towards the market with his wife and daughter.”
The police added, “He noticed that several people was thrashing a hawker. The constable then intervened, and asked the gang to stop. But, the enraged attackers began assaulting him, and also tore off his clothes. He ran towards his house, but the gang forcefully entered his house and ransacked it. His wife tried to intervene. However, she and her daughter too were manhandled and molested.''
The police was alerted some 20 minutes after the incident, and the injured policeman was rushed to Khadki cantonment hospital and kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). An FIR has been registered at Khadki police station over the incident.
