However his India teammate Varun Aaron's had a quiet start to his county career for Durham as he bowled only seven overs in the match getting a wicket (0/24 in 6 overs and 1/3 in 1 over) in the process in his team's facile win over Northamptonshire.

After a disappointing county debut against Glamorgan at Cardiff, where he managed only 7 and 0, the Saurashtra batsman was in his element in more batting friendly conditions at the Oval against a Surrey attack that had England discards like Jade Dernbach, Stuart Meaker and spinner Gareth Batty.

Pujara enjoyed a an unbroken 154 run stand with Billy Godleman, who remained unbeaten on 104. The stylish right-hander played an attacking innings as he faced only 105 balls for his 90, which had 14 boundaries.

He was especially severe on left-arm spinner Zafar Ansari and speedster Meaker, both of whom where hit for seven and five boundaries respectively.

In the other match involving Aaron at the Chester-Le-Street, it was Indian speedster's new ball partner Chirstopher Rushworth, who stole the limelight with match figures of 15/95 in the match as Northants were dismissed for83 and 90 in both innings. Rushworth took 9 for 52 in the first innings while he grabbed six for 43 in the second innings.

Aaron in fact didn't get the new ball in the second essay as he was brought in as second change and got the wicket of No 10 batsman Maurice Chambers.
