After local cable screens movie, couple jump to their death like the reel-life Kamal Haasan-Rati Agnihotri jodi

THE dying-in-love motto from yesteryear hit film Ek Duuje Ke Liye still 'inspires' some. When the Kamal Hassan-Rati Agnihotri film released many years ago, many couples faced with parental opposition committed suicide, just like the couple did in the film.

Bangre was a resident of Panchsheel Nagar, while Sandhya was staying in Milind Nagar railway quarters in Kasara.

The police added that preliminary inquires have revealed that the parents were against their affair and had objected to their meeting. Just a day before the incident, the local cable screened Ek Duuje Ke Liye. Rajendra got the tip from the movie and persuaded Sandhya. As per the plan, they met at a spot and jumped to their death.

Eyewitness Bandu Udyog Shinde, a resident of Talegaon, informed the local police that he was at a hotel near the suicide spot Bhima pool railway bridge track no 2 on Kasara line from where the couple jumped into the valley, which is over 1,000 feet high. A police team along with few villagers rushed to the spot and it took over four hours for them to pull the bodies out. No suicide note was found.

Senior inspector Gautam Gaikwad of Igatpuri police station confirmed the incident but said the case is still being probed. The families of both Sandhya and Rajendra were still mourning, so the police haven't recorded their statements yet, added investigating officer M K Davidkar. A mobile phone belonging to Sandhya was found, completely damaged.

The autopsy conducted at Igatpuri Rural hospital revealed that death was due to hemorrhagic shock with multiple fractures. Meanwhile, the Igatpuri police have registered an offence under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code.
