The storyline of Mega Man X actually has surprising depth and makes it more enjoyable

It's been more than 30 years since the first Mega Man came out and as part of the celebrations, Capcom has released two Mega Man X legacy collections. If you haven't played this game before, it is the story of Mega Man X — a "replica android" aka Reploid that has free will, human level intelligence and emotions.
Using the technology that created X, an archaeologist named Dr Cain, who discovered him in some ruins, mass produces reploids that eventually become rogue and start an uprising. So, Mega Man X now has the responsibility to stop them. The story line actually has surprising depth and makes it more enjoyable.

Overall, this is a great game, though the first one in the series is really the best one. Despite being a classic that we have played many times before, the game still felt fresh and fluid. The game is almost the same in X2 and X3. X4 is slightly different — you can also play as Zero and the game really makes a gameplay distinction between the capabilities of the two characters. It's very refreshing after playing X2 and 3.
The second collection starts with X5, which is again good, though the tutorials are more interruptive than helpful. X6 is another gem — the main characters X and Zero handle well and the boss battles are a lot more fun. The worst game in the series is X7. You hardly get to play as X and the dialogues are written by a four-year-old. Despite it being crap, the collection wouldn't be complete without it. The last game is the series is X8 — it features some great animated cut-scenes and it completely redeems itself after the X7 disaster.
If you are new to the series, we recommend playing it in the rookie mode that makes it easier for newbies to play without taking any damage. The collection also includes X Challenge, which is a boss-rush mode where you take on boss monsters from the game one after the other. The mode is available on both versions and the set of characters are the same in both versions.
One of the best additions to the legacy edition is the museum, which houses everything you would ever want to know about Mega Man, including a selection of artwork, music, animations, trailers and related products like toys. It is a fun way to capture a little bit of history behind the game.
As a set of two games, the Mega Man X Legacy collection 1 and 2 are worth getting. However, if you don't want both the collections, we would recommend you get the first one, which has some of the best games in the series. There is love in this collection and hopefully, more games will follow suit and copy the way this collection is put together. It really offers the fan a chance to savour the gaming glory of yesteryears, while introducing the games to the current generation of gamers.
