This year promises to be an interesting one for gamers. With two mainstream 4K-capable consoles in the market, the Ultra HD gaming battle is just beginning to hot up. Here are a few hot cakes you can expect in the new year

God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 - Games to watch out for in 2018

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima is an open world game based in feudal Japan during the invasion of the Mongols in 1274. Considering there are no games based in this era, it should be a new and fun experience. The trailer also indicates that you start off as a samurai and somehow end up a ninja, or maybe you have a choice between being a ninja or samurai. It isn't completely revealed how the game will progress, but Japan looks amazing in the game. We also assume, going by the name, that the developers aim to recreate the entire island of Tsushima; that's 708 sq km of space. The developers have ample experience developing open world games with their Infamous series.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar has revived Red Dead Redemption eight years after the last one came out. Considering how well-made and popular Red Dead Redemption is, the game is sure to be amazing. Not much is known about the game for now; Rockstar has been very tightlipped about it. However, it is Rockstar, so expect a massive open world based on the wild west. You can, of course, do everything you could in the previous game – tame and ride horses, engage in duels, gamble, and fight in massive shootouts.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5

Far Cry never ceases to amaze, every game has a different story and location. The last time it was Nepal, but for Far Cry 5, we move to Montana, USA. You play the role of a deputy sheriff who is part of a task force assembled to take down a cult leader called Joseph Seed. The game is open world, just like the previous versions, so expect a lot of angry animals and lots of areas that need to be taken down. Since the game is based in America, you can expect a plethora of weapons.

Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human is developed by Quantic Dream, the same guys behind Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. The game is about a futuristic world where androids start displaying human emotions and make choices to change the way the game progresses. From a recent trailer, we can see that the player can make a wide variety of choices for the characters, all ending with different results. Judging from Quantic's previous games, we can assume this one will play out like a movie with a heavy focus on the storyline. The company has already showed trailers featuring a few Hollywood actors, including Jesse Williams and Valorie Curry.

Death Stranding

Death Stranding

Developed by Kojima Productions, the game will feature actors Norman Reedus playing the protagonist and Mads Mikkelsen playing the antagonist. The game already has some photorealistic trailers out that were captured using photogrammetry and performance capture. The trailers have been very cryptic, but knowing Kojima's previous work on the Metal Gear Solid series, this one is going to be a contender for game of the year next year. The game is said to be open world, and the latest trailer shows an invisible entity devouring people in black liquid. The game does not have a release date, even a tentative one, but we think it might be sometime next year, around the holiday season.

God of War

God of War

It's been five years since the last God of War game and this time, we get to meet an older and probably a more mature Kratos, who has moved on from the world of Greek gods into the realm of Norse myths. Kratos is not alone, his son Atreus is along for the ride too. The game has been built from the ground up, which means the gameplay has changed. There are more RPG elements in the game, though the third-person view remains. The game shows lots of promise if the videos are anything to go by.
