IPL 9 controversy: Cops nab restaurant owner, Class XII student for bettin

Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a betting syndicate during a match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians with the arrest of a restaurant owner and a class 12 student

New Delhi: Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a betting syndicate during a match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians with the arrest of a restaurant owner and a class 12 student.


Rachit Gupta (22), who runs a restaurant in Rajouri Garden, and Vikas, a Class 12 student, were arrested after police received information about betting during the match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians yesterday and conducted a raid.


"We received information from constable Ansar that there will be betting on IPL 2016 cricket match and the betting syndicate is operational from a house in Punjabi building, Roshnara Road, Delhi," DCP (North) Madhur Verma said.


He said a team headed by inspector Shalender Tomar conducted a raid and arrested the duo from the building. According to police, Gupta wanted to open a chain of restaurants in the capital for which he indulged in cricket betting with Vikas. The racket had bet about Rs 5 lakh on the match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians.

Police have recovered an LCD TV, mobile phones, three chargers and a notebook from their possession.
